Ascension Day Picnic: May 9

As we approach the Feast of Holy Ascension, Family Ministries invites you to join us for a special celebration in honor of this sacred day. On Thursday, May 9th at 6:00 PM, we will gather in the courtyard for a memorable Ascension Day Picnic.

What is Ascension Day?

The Feast of Holy Ascension commemorates the event 40 days after Easter when Jesus ascended back to heaven. As tradition dictates, Ascension Day is celebrated on a Thursday, marking the momentous occasion of Jesus' return to His heavenly abode after His resurrection.

Cloud Watching Picnic
In celebration of this joyous occasion, we invite you to bring along a picnic basket or a sacked dinner for yourself or your family. Join us in the courtyard for a Cloud Watching Picnic, where we'll lay out blankets, enjoy our meals, and gaze at the sky, pondering the significance of Christ's Ascension.

Special Activities:

  • Bell Tower Storytime: We'll climb to the top of the bell tower to hear the inspiring story of Jesus' Ascension, soaking in the beauty and symbolism of this sacred event.

  • Whipped Cream and Whispy Desserts: Indulge in some “Cloud-like” sweet treats as we enjoy fun whipped cream and delicate desserts together, adding to the joy and festivity of the occasion.

  • Balloon Release: As the evening sky begins to glow with the setting sun, we'll gather together for a heartfelt balloon release. Each family is invited to write a note or message to Jesus on some helium biodegradable balloons before releasing it into the sky. Let us watch as our messages ascend to the heavens, symbolizing our faith and devotion to Christ.

We look forward to coming together as a community to celebrate the significance of Ascension Day and to enjoy an evening of fellowship, reflection, and joy.
