Nurture and Parish Growth and Fellowship

This group is responsible for welcoming newcomers and helping to incorporate them into the life of the Parish, for developing and maintaining the church website, and for putting forth other programs that nurture members of the parish.

  • Greeters welcome newcomers during announcements and answer their questions after the service.
  • Newcomers’ Coffees held 2 or 3 times a year after the 10 AM service are a good time to introduce new arrivals to the Parish.
  • The Red Door Rally in late August provides an opportunity to explain all programs to parishioners, especially newcomers. This is an opportunity for parishioners to sign up for a program in which they have an interest or need.
  • Punch in the Garden after 10 o’clock service during the summer.
  • Parish Picnic held in a local park at the beginning of the summer.

Books and Beliefs:

One of the oldest special interest groups at Trinity was designed to fill the void after completing the Great Books series. This group discusses books and ideas with energy, love and laughter. Books and Beliefs is open to all, including non Episcopalians. The group meets the fourth Wednesday of each month except July and August, usually at 10 AM in the church parlor. The June meeting is designated as the time to choose reading for the year that will provide variety and provoke good discussions.

Conveners: Gay Smith and Jane Beuttel

Cathedral Domain Weekend:

For more than 30 years, more than 100 Trinity parishioners of all ages have gathered over Labor Day weekend at our Diocesan Camp, The Cathedral Domain, in Lee County in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains for fun, fellowship and worship. Attendees play games, swim, read, hike, talk, sleep in cabins and eat in the dining hall. All are welcome.

Arrangements: Judy Clements

Dinner Groups:

Those who sign up are assigned to groups of about eight who meet for dinner at one another’s homes over a span of about six months.

Movie Group:

Periodically, this amorphous group gathers at someone’s home to discuss a current movie chosen by a convener. All are invited, but newcomers are especially encouraged to participate as it is a good venue for meeting others in an informal setting.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:

This group knits or crochets shawls that will be blessed and donated to people in hospitals or to others who would be comforted by such a gift. They meet the Monday evening of the month in the parlor.

Conveners: Cynthia Walker and Gay Smith

Soup Sunday:

About ten times a year after Sunday Services, parishioners share a simple lunch, providing an opportunity for everyone to get to know one another better. A free will offering goes to community outreach projects. Volunteers provide soup, bread and fruit.
