COMMUNION RAIL CUSHIONS

At the Communion Rail are fine petit point covered cushions, works accomplished by the ladies of the Altar Guild and others in recent years.

It is possible that a journey in England in 1966 (the year of commeration of the 1066 Battle of Hastings) and the restoration of the 12th century Abbey Church in Malmesbury of Wiltshire, which displayed many petit-point kneeling cushions, provided the impetus to make such cushions and place them as memorials near the usual position of the departed in services of worship.

The beautification of the church in upholstery of sanctuary and chancel furniture and memorial pew cushions, with both men and women collaborating, has spread to include the Bishop's chair, Clergy chairs, and also the Communion rail kneeling cushions.
